Youth Prevention & Education

It's Ohio's youth movement that empowers youth to reject tobacco. It's for all youth who want to become the first generation in Ohio NOT addicted to tobacco. If you've been affected by tobacco in your personal life, don't like being around tobacco or want to feel empowered to make a change-stand is for you. Whether it's an act, a thought or a moment, it bands kids all together-across the state-to change the cultural acceptance of tobacco use in Ohio.

We provide Advisors to two county-wide teams of youth, they attend meetings, plan events and learn advocacy skills need to take a stand against tobacco.

LifeSkills Training:

We teach the evidence-based curriculum LifeSkills Training to elementary and middle school children. This prevention program prepares students to say "no" to tobacco products, alcohol, and other drugs. LifeSkills Training also incorporates lessons on personal safety.

100% Tobacco Free School Policy:

Our 100% Tobacco Free School Coordinator provides tool kits and assistance advocating 100% tobacco free campus policies. We provide guidance and support to local school districts with the development, implementation and compliance issues involved with maintaining 100% tobacco free campuses.

Presentations:

LGATPC can provide speakers who will inform and educate
groups about tobacco issues. These talks can include the health
risks associated with tobacco use of cigarettes and/or smokeless
tobacco. Also issues of second hand smoke exposure and the
health consequences to our children and the elderly.

Display Booths:

LGATPC will set up a display table with visuals and informative
handouts on the dangers of tobacco use : either by chewing it or
smoking tobacco use. We are committed to educating the public on the
dangers of second hand smoke both at home and in automobiles,
as well as inform them about local cessation programs
and the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line.
